KaiKen in kill shelter

Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Subject: Rare breed Kai ken, 1.5 yo, rescued needs home, waiting 2 months, ftlaud

Hi all,
Happy 4th! About 2 mnths ago, I rescued a pup...1 1/2 yo male KAI KEN mix (vet says he is %80 pure).....40 lbs(max) and brindle. He was tied to a tree for the most part, greatly underweight and afraid. Since then, I have had MAX neutered, and fully vetted...heartworm test neg :). I have had him in 3 foster homes...one of which is in Weston, wonderful lady that does in-home dog boarding and then her daughters for 3 weeks. Today Max is going back to Weston. MAX has evolved beautifully :) he has gained weight, loves people, most dogs and doesnt chase cats, ducks etc. He doesnt potty in the house anymore but is mischevious (nothing BAD just got into the flour and chewed a sandal).....he hugs and kisses and has a loyal, playful disposition....and he is gorgeous and RARE! The KAI KEN assoc. says that this breed is extrememly rare in the US.
I HAVE TO find him his forever home.....being bounced from foster to foster is going to effect him and he has come too far....and he is too wonderful. He is sweet and loves to cuddle...such a gem!
To be honest, I would love to have him, but that would be nothing but selfish, as it would adversely affect my cats (we just put one of my babys to sleep) and my feral community in the yard.
If someone you KNOW adopts him, I will waive the adoption fee, and if you help get him adopted, I will donate money to your fund. I am just beside myself over this one baby....please, please forward him to everyone you know for me.

Thank you so much!

I adopted a Kai Inu August 2008 from new jersey and his name is Harley. I'm still not sure to this day if he is a full bred Kai but he certainly looks and acts like it. we have since moved from NYC to lausanne Switzerland, and my new employer kindly paid for his transfer over, otherwise I would have been completely devastated.
I know this is a long shot, but I'm already thinking there if there is anyway to have MAX transported over to Switzerland somehow? If so, I would love to take him in plus he sounds like he would get on really well with harley. if not, I will definately spread the news to see if he can find a home. What is the name and address of the shelter? Where are there pictures of him?
PS My Harley likes to walk on his hind legs like a Prairie dog alot. He can walk almost half a NYC block. Not sure if this is normal for a Kai, but that's what I guess moulds his character.

Hi all,

Im sorry for the sign in probs...my name is Toni, not Diane
and MAX isnt in a shelter, but safe in foster.
I spoke with John, sent 13 pics...and havent heard back. I really do need to re-home Max to someone that understands his temperment, but when someone claims to be interested and then doesnt follow thru, it wastes my time which is otherwise dedicated to rescuing and finding 4ever homes. please contact me @ live4theanimals@yahoo.com or (754)422-0715 if you are interested! :)

PS...I want to thank Tony C. for posting this, he has been nothing but helpful.

Max was assessed as %80 pure KaiKen by the Vet that did his neuter, how she determined the % w/o dna test I dont know.
But MAX doesnt care what breed he is...none of my rescued animals do....all they care about is finding a loving, caring permenent home. I have had him in foster care for approx 3 mnths after he was mistreated for the first year of his life. Since in foster care, he has flourished and shown his true personality. He is loving, playful, intelligent and stuborn but such an amasing furbabe. I came to this forum in the hopes of finding a loving parent, or at least a lead to one. I hope to place Max with someone that isnt just a breed enthusist but an animal lover that appreciates each animal as an individual.

My rescue name is LIVE4THEANIMALS, and we are in Ft. Lauderdale Florida

Im glad to have had the chance to post Max to this site, and Tony has been kind.
I must say that "John" dropped the ball, and I wouldnt adopt to him. As a rescuer for years Ive learned certain characteristics that send up a red flag.....and there are many. No consistant communication, and when he was told that there was an app, the communication stopped completely.
Im sure he has his reasons and I hope he is a wonderful caretaker to his current dog(s) but if he is traveling and too busy to address this adoption properly, then he is certainly too busy for Max.

I wont be posting again, but again I thank everyone that has read this and I invite emails from anyone that may be serious about helping.
